Introduction
The best way to use MAB is installing it as an extension of Mozilla/Firefox, downloading the XPI. Doing so, MAB appears as an item of the Tools menu from which, it will be possible to run it. This kind of installation is not strictly necessary, you can also use MAB downloading and unzipping it in a directory and opening the main file, mab.xul, straight from Mozilla/Firefox. In the end, the last opportunity is using MAB directly on-line from a web page, without any kind of installation.
Extension
Click on "Install Now" and Mab will be installed as an extension of your browser and will appear as an item in the Tools menu. Installation has been tested with Mozilla 1.4 - 1.7 and Firefox 0.9 - 1.0 Preview Release (MAB is compatible with Firefox extension manager). With Mozilla, before installation, you are asked if you want MAB to be available only for the current user or for all PC users. Choose what you prefere but be careful not to install it twice in the personal chrome folder and in in the global chrome folder. This will cause weird behaviour.
Local
This is sometimes the better way because it does not interfere with your browser installation and makes uninstallation very easy for Mozilla browser (Firefox has an extension manager from which you can uninstall MAB). Here are the four steps you have to follow:
- Download and save the zip file
- Unzip the file in the directory you prefer
- From the inside of your browser, open the file (File ---->Open File) mab.xul that you can find in MAB_DIRECTORY/chrome/content/mab.xul as it were a common HTML file. Otherwise you can launch MAB by typing file:///C:/MAB_DIRECTORY/chrome/content/mab.xul into the browser location bar. You might as well bookmark it too, to save typing this every time.
- If you prefere, you can create a shortcut on the desktop. If you are using Windows, after creating the link, click the right button and select property. In your input box you must write the path to the mozilla.exe file and the path to the XUL file to open MAB with some parameters. In the shortcut property insert the target directory like this: C:\Program Files\Mozilla\mozilla.exe -chrome " file:///C://MAB_DIRECTORY/chrome/content/mab.xul"
Remote
Using MAB Remote is like using any other web application but you have at your disposal a more practical interface. The on-line version has the same potential than the installed one, except you can't save the result list on your hard disk. You can run MAB remote from this site or from your own server if it supports ColdFusion MX.
